We know more about other planets than we do about the world at the bottom of our own oceans. Marine Biolgist Michael Armitage is recruited to investigate an emergency at a secret military research facility, deep in the Kermadec Trench, 18,000 feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean. Now trapped with a squad of Marines and the few survivors, they must fight to survive and discover the terrifying secret that lurks in the darkness of The Trench.

The Trench is a horror sci-fi novel in the vein of DEEP BLUE SEA where scientists at an underwater research facility have done things against God and created monsters. Except, well, the heroes are scientists so it's a bit more complicated. The Trench doesn't attempt to tell the great American novel and is content to just be a B-horror movie with all the scares that entails.Michael Armitage and his fellow scientist Nicole Saint Claire have a drunken one-night stand before both are drafted by the US Navy to visit an underwater laboratory where Michael's ex-wife (except not so ex) is working. They've been working on IMMORTALITY with SCIENCE and have resulted in a bunch of evil jellyfish people. There's a bunch of Marines with orders to contain the experiment at all costs and that's really all you need to know about the plot.
I liked the protagonists, their relationships, and the fact all of them were doing their best to survive with temptations to either help or throw under the bus their fellows in order to get out of their situation. The ending is also extremely well done and genuinely horrifying.

The Trench Paul Mannering 9781925597394 Books Reviews
Great concept is only reason it got 2 stars. Book starts out great with interesting plot and characters. Then turns into another zombie type flick. Very light on science and reasoning after that just a bunch of zombie type attacks. Doesn't really get into the science and interesting parts. Just a big pile of steaming goo. End just comes so quickly it's like the guy hurried up to finish and jammed parts together. Didn't work for me. Parts were there just not blended correctly. Skip this book unless it is offered for free
Very well written and intriguing plot! Enjoyed reading this one!
Cliche, Dull and paced horribly come to mind.
No real beginning no real ending don't waste your time or money. A complete waste of time big mistake can I get refund???
I would recommend this title to anyone's library. Perfect for a warm night by the fire, any where away from any trench.
Really good book that is set up for a sequel. Through me off because I thought this is about
Zombies, but it is not. It is a very good book that is suspenseful. Would recommend.
I found this to be a really exciting thriller. I've always been pretty interested in submarine technology and the writer does a great job setting his story in that world. The action is fierce and the dialogue seems very well written. I look forward to reading more of this author's work in the future!
